The Lowy team particularly enjoyed framing one of Condo’s early landscapes done in an 18th-century style with the words CONDO broadly painted horizontally across the landscape.

We matched it with an 18th-century French Regence frame, as one would frame a Poussin, acknowledging the same anachronism that Condo was expressing with his ploy in painting his name across the composition. Perhaps one might envision a group of contemporary condominiums appearing in his next similar composition!

George Condo is recognized as one of America’s most influential living artists. Throughout his career, he has incorporated art historical traditions and references ranging from European classicism to popular American culture, often combining elements of each to shed light on contemporary social mores.

Condo enjoys expressing himself through the framing of his  artwork and also carefully selects period appropriate frames for the framing of his significant art collection.
