Collection Evaluation & Services

Lowy’s state-of-the-art conservation studio is housed on the top floor of our six-story brownstone on East 80th Street in Manhattan.  Our conservators work in an environment that provides an abundance of unobstructed natural light, facilitating ideal cleaning and inpainting conditions. We have two large hot vacuum tables for structural work, a cleaning table with proper ventilation, a varnish booth and a water filtration system for works on paper, along with other current and constantly changing tools required for art conservation. We offer a tours of our facilities upon request. To learn more about our people, our facility and our process visit Lowy Art Conservation.

Frame Consulting & LowyScan™

Our exclusive, state-of-the-art LowyScan™ system, developed in conjunction with IBM Research LowyScan™ uses highly sophisticated digital imaging technology to match specific frames with a work of art. Once you’ve sent or e-mailed an image of your painting to Lowy, and spoken with one of our consultants, we will search our extensive collection for frames that are appropriate in period, style and country of origin.

LowyScan™ modifies each frame to fit the art and allows you to “try on” the frame, eliminating virtually all guesswork from the process. You then can choose to receive a portfolio of images, printed with startling clarity on high-quality photographic paper, or view your painting in various frames directly on your home computer. Along with providing a preview of the framed picture, LowyScan™ offers close-ups of our exquisitely detailed antique frames.  If you send us an image of where the painting will hang, we can include images of the framed work in situ.
